Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about setup, privacy, Docker and pricing.
Answers are for replume-cli 0.2.1, the version on npm today, unless a line says 0.2.2. Version 0.2.2 is being prepared and is not released yet. Each answer ends with a command you can run to see it for yourself.
Do I have to run this every time I open the repo? And after a reboot?
No. replume init writes the agent's hook settings into the repository once (for Claude Code, .claude/settings.json), and the agent reads them at the start of every session. Nothing runs in the background between sessions, so there is nothing to start again after a reboot. Run replume init again only in a new repository, or in a fresh clone where those settings were not committed.
grep -c "replume hook claude" .claude/settings.json # above 0: the hooks are in placeWill Claude start it by itself?
Yes. Claude Code calls Replume's hooks itself (on your prompt, on each tool call and when it stops), so you type no replume command during the session. We checked this with a real claude -p session right after replume init: every step was recorded, and a report was written.
ls .replume/reports/ # after any agent session in this repositoryWhere do I buy it?
There is nothing to buy. Replume is free during the beta and needs no account or key; the site takes no payment. A Team plan is planned but does not exist yet.
npm view replume-cli version # the whole product today is this one npm packageWhy is Team $40?
$40 per developer per month is a price we want to test; there is nothing to buy yet. The plan is not built. We are considering your team's reports in one place, and reports on pull requests. If the price looks wrong to you, please tell us at hello@replume.dev.
Check: replume.dev/pricing says "Nothing on this plan exists yet".
What does it install on my machine?
One npm package, replume-cli (about 780 KB, one dependency), which adds the replume command. In each repository where you run replume init, it writes three files: .claude/settings.json (the hooks), .replume/config and .replume/.gitignore. Later, sessions add their log and reports under .replume/. No background service is installed, and in our check nothing was written to the home folder.
npm ls -g replume-cli
git status --short # right after replume init: the files it wroteOther agents' hook files are written only when that agent is found or you pass its flag: .cursor/hooks.json, .codex/hooks.json, .github/hooks/replume.json (--copilot), ~/.hermes/config.yaml (--hermes).
What leaves my machine?
In 0.2.1, nothing by default. Commands that contact services include replume share, replume github comment, replume task with Jira, and replume verify --check-registry. The legacy and configured HTTP judges also require opt-in. Check the command output before sending data.
In 0.2.2, one thing is on by default: when the agent finishes, a model review sends your task text, the diff and the test output to a second coding agent through your own login. For a Claude Code session that is Codex (OpenAI); for a Codex session it is Claude (Anthropic). Turn it off with review: enabled: false in .replume/config, or with REPLUME_REVIEW=off.
replume init | grep "Model review" # 0.2.2 prints where the review sends data, or nothing if it is offDoes Replume use Docker?
Only when Docker is running and the project fits it. Replume then runs your tests in a container (node:20-bookworm-slim, no network, read-only) and never downloads the image itself. Otherwise it uses a separate working copy on your machine: no Docker, no image, a Python project, or (from 0.2.2) a project whose test runner lives in node_modules. In 0.2.1 that last case runs in Docker and fails with exit code 127; add the two lines below to .replume/config to avoid it, or to turn Docker off entirely.
auto:
isolation: worktreegrep -h "Isolation" .replume/reports/*.md # which one each report used
replume verify --isolation worktree # one check without DockerCan I install it on a work laptop?
It needs no administrator rights beyond what npm install -g already needs on your machine, and no account or service. The Replume Beta License allows free use for your own internal development during the beta; it is not open source. Check your company's rules first, especially on sending diffs to OpenAI or Anthropic through the 0.2.2 model review, which you can turn off. For your manager answers the usual security questions on one page.
cat "$(npm root -g)/replume-cli/LICENSE"What does Replume NOT see?
It sees only the repository folder and what the agent does there through the hooks. It does not see:
- your servers or production;
- your CI runs or their results (in auto mode it does refuse agent edits to CI files);
- databases and services your tests need, unless your machine can reach them (the Docker container has no network);
- anything outside the repository, or commands you run yourself outside an agent session.
When it could not check something, the verdict is INCOMPLETE rather than PASS.
grep -h "Verdict: INCOMPLETE" .replume/reports/*.md
